Who are we?

Crossroads Caring for Life offers compassionate support for unpaid family carers and the individuals they care for across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

A person holding another person's hand in a comforting gesture.

Crossroads Care began its journey in 1974. inspired by a powerful storyline in the ITV soap opera Crossroads, which highlighted the challenges faced by a family caring for a disabled loved one.

The episode struck a chord with viewers, prompting the show's production company, ATV, to fund a pilot project in Rugby, Warwickshire. What began as a small initiative to provide hands-on support for family carers soon grew into a national network of local schemes. In 2012, Crossroads Care joined forces with The Princess Royal Trust for Carers to form Carers Trust – now the UK’s largest charity supporting unpaid carers.

Over the years, we have helped thousands of people…

We provide dependable, personalised support for family and friends caring for people with physical or mental health issues. We focus on unpaid carers, those they care for, their support networks, and the wider community. Our services give carers regular breaks through activities at home and in the community.

Crossroads Caring for Life supports carers in North Hertfordshire and works with our Borehamwood branch to reach families across Hertfordshire.

Our goal is to help carers and those they support live well and independently.
